MICROCHIP
AND IDENTIFICATION

It is now possible and routine to implant your pet with a computer chip that will assure its positive identification. The chip is the size of an uncooked grain of rice and contains an individual number for each pet. Implantation by the veterinarian is fast and easy with a 12-gauge syringe.
To identify an
animal, hand-held scanners are simply passed over the pet’s shoulder area and
the number is displayed on the scanner. The
microchip has a 25 year lifespan.
We recommend
collars with visible identification (ID) tags and AVID microchips to all of our
clients. Collars can come off but
the rice sized microchip implanted beneath your pet’s skin will still be able
to help reunite you with your beloved pet.
A scanner can ID a
“microchipped” pet in less than one second. Wherever you move, your phone
and address can be updated as many times as needed. Relatives, friends, and your veterinarian can be contact
people if you are not reachable.
I believe
microchip implantation is the safest and most cost effective positive
identification system available. It
is not a luxury but an excellent preventive health care item for your pet.
