Hurricane
and Disaster Planning for Pets

Kindness Animal Hospital is
active in disaster planning at the county and hospital level.
Every person must make the commitment to plan for their pets and be
prepared to evacuate with their pets in acceptable carriers with appropriate
food and water and supplies should it be so advised.
Take your pet with you. Pets
are not currently allowed in public shelters. The needs are great and resources
limited. Try to be as well prepared on your own as you can.
Find a buddy or host family in an inland or central county ahead of time.
A written disaster plan can save lives. Get
more guidelines from our local Emergency Management Office (Lee County EOC).

Long range preparations in
our pet owning community should include:
|
Obedience training (Canine
Good Citizenship) | |
|
Updating vaccinations and
licensing | |
|
Crate training | |
|
Identification programs
(microchips, tattoos, collars and tags) |
Immediate Planning should
include a disaster plan for each family.
